The GENDERDOC-M Information Center has released its 2025 Report on the Situation of LGBT+ Rights in the Republic of Moldova, offering a data-based overview of the social, political, and institutional context shaping the lives of LGBT+ people.
Within this context, the report documents lived experiences of violence and harassment.
A 2025 survey of 116 LGBT+ respondents shows that:
- over 90% experienced repeated sexualized comments;
- around 70% reported non-consensual sexual touching;
- two thirds were exposed to unwanted sexual content;
Nearly 50% were propositioned for sex in exchange for gifts or money, and over 25% experienced physical sexual coercion.
Most survivors first experienced abuse between the ages of 11 and 17.
Perpetrators were reported as:
- unknown persons (over 50%);
- friends or peers (around 32%);
- family members (around 24%);
and in some cases teachers or guardians.
Reporting rates remain very low:
- about 40% say their sexual orientation or gender identity prevented them from reporting;
- nearly 70% do not feel safe reporting to authorities;
- two thirds consider institutions unprepared to respond;
The report was developed by the GENDERDOC-M Information Center with the support of the Coalition.
