Supporting LGBT+ Organizations in Eastern Europe
The Coalition operates as a platform to support civil society organizations from Eastern Europe and as a leading advocate and resource center on an international scale.
Who we are
The Eastern European Coalition for LGBT+ Equality is a regional platform that supports civil society organizations across Eastern Europe and serves as an advocacy and resource center.
Our work is based on close contact with LGBT+ communities and activists in the region, which helps us offer an evidence-based view of the realities people face on the ground.
Founded in 2014 and formally registered in 2021, the Coalition brings together five member organizations from Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, and Armenia, and works with partner organizations across the wider region.
Why we exist
Eastern Europe shares many histories and common challenges, but each country has its own political, social and cultural context. Addressing LGBT+ and gender issues therefore requires both a regional perspective and country-specific expertise.
Our Coalition brings together organisations and activists across the region, connecting local knowledge and experience to provide an evidence-based understanding of realities on the ground.
Our mission
We work to build resilience and bridges of solidarity to advance equality for LGBT+ people and communities in Eastern Europe.
What We Do
We monitor human rights violations against LGBT+ people, analyze anti-LGBT narratives and the strategies behind them, including coordinated disinformation, and work with partners to respond effectively.
We support local organizations and activists through training, capacity-building, and efforts that strengthen solidarity, resilience, and empowerment within LGBT+ movements.
We also produce advocacy materials, reports, and policy briefs for international institutions and partners.
Our Members
The Coalition brings together five core members across four countries: GenderDoc-M (Moldova); Insight and Gay Alliance Ukraine (Ukraine); Pink (Armenia); and WISG (Georgia).
Beyond its core membership, the Coalition works with a broader network of partners and remains open to new collaborations.
Our Governance
The Coalition is governed by the General Assembly, its highest decision-making body, which sets the overall direction and takes key strategic decisions. Between General Assembly meetings, the Coordination Council oversees governance and policy, while the Secretariat manages the Coalition’s day-to-day work and activities.
Advisory Groups support the Coalition in four key areas: advocacy, fundraising, capacity building, and organisational development. Temporary committees are established when needed for specific tasks.
